Jeff Schwartz is principal bass of MESTO, a member of the Vicente Chamber Orchestra, Santa Monica Symphony, and Sonic Open Orchestra, and part of Los Angeles’ improvised and experimental music communities. He has performed with artists including Glenn Branca, Anthony Braxton, Andrea Centazzo, Anna Homler, Lisa Mezzacappa, Don Preston, and Adam Rudolph, and trained at St. John's College, UC Santa Cruz, Bowling Green State University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the Creative Music Studio. He is the author of Free Jazz: A Research and Information Guide (Routledge 2018), numerous journal articles and conference papers, and sections of A Basic Music Library (ALA Editions, 2018). His day job is as a reference librarian at the Santa Monica Public Library, where he runs the Soundwaves new music series.
